The innovative Manta Ray squat support increases the effective surface area supporting the bar by more than 1600 percent, distributing the entire load over a larger area of the body than the bar alone, reducing pressure on the neck, preventing shifting and slipping of the bar, and enabling heavier lifts. The patented semi-rigid polyurethane polymer support easily snaps onto most any bar to promote proper squat posture, technique and exercise comfort.

Fits most olympic/international bars.

Comments about Manta Ray Squat Support:

Only complaint is the bar size limitation. My squat rack uses a larger bar that the Manta doesn't fit on. For standard bars this works great.

Comments about Manta Ray Squat Support:

I use the product in all of my squat exercises.
It keep the bar off of my upper neck, places the weight of the bar across my shoulders for great position. If not placed right on the shoulders it can be a little sharp on the edges.

Comments about Manta Ray Squat Support:

I've used the Manta Ray for some time now and I feel it does a good job distributing the load of the bar and weights during squats. I find it comfortable and most important, stable, while lifting. It's well made, easy to clean and easy to use. I have recommended it and let other gym members use it. A few have also purchased this product.

Comments about Manta Ray Squat Support:

I had such high hopes for this product as I am a trainer and have a number of clients who have had discomfort on their neck and trap area using the bar (even with the regular padding), from either my Smith machine or the Olympic bar for squats and/or lunges. This product should not be called a "pad" because there is NO padding and it actually made the neck and trap area feel much more pressure. It's made of a hard plastic that digs into your cervical vertebrae. The weight distribution feels none existent. I am returning this product.

SPORTSMITH Response: The word "Pad" was only meant to be listed in the product keywords so it would come up when someone searched for "squat pads" and that word wasn't supposed to show up in the actual product description. The manufacturer calls the Manta Ray, "a semi-rigid load distribution device." They call it that because it increases the surface area of the bar by 1600% and it's comfortable because the load is so widely disbursed. Much like sitting on the top rail of a fence, compared to sitting on a simple metal folding chair. The hard chair is still comfortable because the load is spread over many more square inches.

It sounds like you were expecting a soft pad and were instantly disappointed, so you might have missed the solution to your problem that was in the instructions that accompanied the device. The instructions say: "...The key to quickly finding your groove is not getting the bar too close to your neck. If the bar hurts your neck, or the front projections hit your collar bone, just roll the bar (and the device) rearward a little with your hands."

Moving the device rearward just a little (1/2 to 1 inch) moves the device off that bony protrusion at the base of your neck and picks the front projections (hooks) up off your collar bones allowing complete comfort plus it eliminates the tendency of the bar to roll off your back...
